I am Digital Publishing director, responsible for the regional websites within Trinity Mirror. This blog is a personal blog, and the views expressed in here may not reflect those of the company I work for.
So what’s the blog about? It’s meant to be a collection of postings on things which have caught my interest. It may be that you read something and think “I’ve known that for ages” in which case, I’m very sorry!
Over time, I hope to build up a collection of posts which will hopefully be of use to journalists both new and old, relating to online journalism, the journey between print journalism and online journalism, and how regional journalists should seek to make the most out of the opportunities online.
I’ll also blog from time to time about the Freedom of Information Act, which I believe is one of the most powerful tools at our disposal as journalists, and one which should be used more frequently.
Dear David:
My name is Joel Campbell. I am an associate professor at Brigham Young
University and a journalist of 20 years. My research
and writing has focused on Freedom of Information at the state and
federal level in the United States. I am coming to London in June to
research the impact of the UK’s FOIA on media reporting in the UK.
The Campaign for Freedom of Information suggested I speak with you.
Would it be possible to meet on June 9 or the next week, June 15
or 16 (afternoon)?
I am meeting with other journalists, attending an FOIA training and will be
visiting the Information Commissioner’s office.
Any time and direction you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Joel Campbell

Hi David
Someone just tweeted me your blog, great work on the front pages from the regionals. Not sure if the plan was just to use Saturday’s splashes but we did a late final on Friday to get ‘the kiss’ on the streets first (we are mainly an overnight operation these days although we tend to do a late at least once per month news breaks permitting).
If you want a pdf then please let me know
Best wishes

Hi David
Just wanted to give you a heads up on the launch of Zapaday.com.
Zapaday is an open news agenda and global public calendar. It helps users keep track of the future with day-by-day events, facts and news stories. They can also share their news and events wiki-style.
Let me know if you would like to preview.
Thanks,
Maria

Hi David,
I thought I would send you a couple of links to this story about a parent who used FOI to fight a councils attempts to close two primaries in favour of building an £8 million “super-school”.

Plus some older stuff which shows some of the detail discovered through FOI:
